year old son was the perfect child for the first two years of his life.
Something has shifted in the last three weeks. He has become a bully. We are
devastated. I know this is a phase, but we are desperately in search of
recommendations on how to discipline him on this.
It's getting really bad. This morning he pushed a one year old off the play structure at Dolores Park, and just laughed. We left the park immediately. Last weekend I left him alone for 30 seconds with another child at our home, and when I came back he was trying to choke her. He bullies any kid that is smaller than him, and he is a very large and strong kid. He is fine with his older brother and his older brother's friends. He is used to being around the 4 and 5 year olds, which might be part of the problem, since they are all so physical. But his brother and brother's friends are all quite gentle with him.
We do not shy away from disciplining our children - we run a pretty tight ship and are very intent on raising children who are both well-mannered and KIND.
Should we be yelling at him? Time outs? What is appropriate? Has anyone else experienced this?
